It was during this time, in 1890 that he married Emma. He subsequently spent 5 years as operator in Reese, and soon thereafter he and Emma separated. He resigned his position with the railroad in 1902 and operated a grocery store in Flint, Mich.til he sold the store and went to work with the Pere-Marquette railroad at Birch Run, Mich. in 1904. Elizabeth died there. He then sold his Birch Run home and moved to Reese where he married Meta, whom he had known since she was 15 years old. He retired for the railroads with a pension July 22 1937 after a total of 48 years of railroad service. During his life, he was blessed with good health and possessed a zest for like, withal a real sense of humor. Referring to his outliving all his siblings, his own words in 1944 were,"I must have been the odd sheep and a tough one.
