- Vol. 2 - Marriage Bond - 1796---December 13, Jacob Sligh and John Chesnut, surety. Jacob Sly and Lucy Vines, daughter of Thomas Vines (consent). Jacob is son of Henry Sligh (consent). Teste: James Kelly.
- Vol. 2 - Thomas Vine's Declaration, November 6th, 1832: Age 77; enlisted to guard prisoners taken at Burgoyne's defeat; marched under Capt. Loving from Amherst; Col. Burley and Col. Taylor both commanded at the barracks; also to guard prisoners taken in North Carolina and sent to Winchester; Capt. Goriah Martin; again went as substitute for John Campbell, of Augusta; marched under Capt. Givings, William Robertson, Lieut. Col. Huggart; was drafted under Capt. Christian, Lieut. William Barnett, Ensign James Bell; again under Capt. John Morrison, of Amherst; Lieut. Thomas Yores, Ensign James Bell, General Lawson.

- Vines, Thomas - born 1756 in Amherst County, Virginia, where entered in Virginia Regiment & entered service again in different Virginia regiment in 1781; served at Battles of Hot Water, Jamestown & Yorktown; granted Pension Rockbridge County, Virginia, 1832; Robert Templeton & James McDowell made affidavits there then per County Court Clerk Samuel D. Reid; soldier died 6/6/1838 or 6/15/1838 in Augusta County, Virginia & there buried; married 10/20/1795 Mary Hill age 21 (Marriage Bond 10/20/1795, signed by Thomas Greene, witnessed by John Carr & Thomas Beal) Albemarle County, Virginia by Reverend Thanasius Thomas, per certificate in 1846 by County Court Clerk Ira Garrett; widow granted Pension age 74, Augusta County, Virginia, 1846 when resided near Middlebrook per County Justice of the Peace William Harris; King David Vines made affidavit there in 1848 that he helped bury soldier per County Court Clerk Jefferson Kinney; John Randolph made affidavit there in 1849 per County Justice of the Peace E. Hogshead; widow died there 12/24/1862; children included youngest Nelson, who was only child living in 1876 when resided in Staunton, Virginia, age 74, he then having sons William F. & Andrew J.; Nelson Vines made affidavit there then; S.M. Yost made affidavit there then he was local postmaster; query letter in file states a Jacob Slye, son of Henry resided in the 1790's at Lexington, Virginia, married Lucy, daughter of Thomas Vines, Augusta County, Virginia, also Jacob went from Virginia to Fort Washington where he was an officer under Generals Wayne & St. Clair, & died in Clinton County, Ohio.
