GOETSCHIUS, 84, A FORMER RESIDENT OF AUBURN, PASSES AWAY AT HOME OF DAUGHTER, IN FORT WAYNE Mrs. Sarah C. Goetschius, 84, a former Auburn resident and widow Of the late Ira B. Goetschius, died At 4:40 a.m. Tuesday at the home of a daughter in Fort Wayne. The elderly widow died of complications following a stroke of paralysis suffered last Friday. Her death took place in the home of Mrs Mabel Housel. She suffered a stroke after an illness extending over the past several months. For over a year, after leaving Auburn, she had resided in the home of her daughter. The body was brought to the Gerig Funeral Home in Auburn for burial preparations and will remain for final rites at 2 p.m. Thursday. The Rev. Allen K. Trout, pastor of the St. Marks Lutheran Church in Auburn and the Zion Lutheran Church northwest of the city, will officiate at Thursday’s services. Burial will be at Woodlawn Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. tonight. Mrs Goetschius was a member of the Zion church. She was born Dec. 22, 1865, in Dekalb County. On Nov 23, 1884, she was married to Mr. Goetschius. He preceded her in death several years ago. The couple had resided for many years on a farm on the Auburn-Ashley road a mile and a half north of the city. After the death of her husband, she resided at 104 ½ East Eleventh street, Auburn, before moving to the home of her daughter. Surviving besides the daughter, are two sons, Jay H. Goetschius of Detroit and Frank D Goetschius of Rt. I, Garrett; eight grandchildren; one brother William Groh of East Lansing, Mich, and a sister, Mrs. Flora Dick, of Brentwood, Calif The late Mrs. Sarah C. Goetschius, 84, a former resident of Auburn, was buried Thursday afternoon in Woodlawn cemetery in Auburn. Final rites were conducted at 2 p.m. Thursday in the Gerig funeral home in the city, officiated at the services. Mrs. Goetschius, who had resided at 104 1/2 East Eleventh Street, Auburn, died at 4:40 a.m. Tuesday in the home of her daughter, Mrs. Mabel Housel of Ft. Wayne.
