Facts and Events
It isn't know for certain if Sarah Dugger is a child of Benjamin Dugger, in fact there is no evidence, circumstantial or otherwise, that she is his child. The reason for putting her in his family is that she doesn't really fit elsewhere. She was in Knox Co., KY at the same time as his son William Dugger so that is the main reason for thinking they are of the same family. Not exactly solid proof, but better than nothing. Sarah Duggar was listed on the 1805 tax list in Knox Co., KY and listed again in 1806 (as Sarah Dugger). On 12 Jul 1808 William Sneed married Sarah Dugger in Knox Co., KY. William Sneed (or Snead) was listed on the 1807, 1808 and 1809 tax lists in Knox Co., KY. They were not in Knox for the 1810 census. There was a Charles Sneed there, the only one of that surname. It is possible he is the same person as William (if his name was "William Charles Sneed") but that is just a wild guess. Charles had one male 16-25 (1784/94) and one female same age per this census. There was a William Sneed in nearby Green Co., KY in 1810. This could be the same William who married Sarah Dugger, but one can't be sure. His household seems a little too large for someone married just 2 years earlier.
There was another William Sneed on the 1810 census. This one was in Franklin Co., KY several counties NW of Knox. I don't think this is the same one we are seeking:
I wasn't able to find them on the 1820 census either. [edit] Follow-up neededI found a William Sneed in 1830 Rutherford Co., TN. He was gone by 1840, but a Sarah D. Sneed was there then. She was still in that county in 1850 also. She was 53 (c1797) born in VA. The name and initial work well to be the same person we are seeking. I have no proof that this is the same person as Sarah Dugger who married William Sneed in 1808, but it certainly could be. More research is needed to determine if this is the case or not. |
