Facts and Events
Joel Dugger was born 11 May 1787 (what is source for this date?) presumably in Wilkes Co., NC. On 13 Oct 1802 Thomas Foster, Joel Duggar and Mary Duggar witnessed a deed from Benjamin Dugger to Martin Hall for land on Elk Creek. (Wilkes Co., NC Deed Book C1 page 435). Joel Dugger married Hester Ann Primmer on 2 Aug 1805 in neighboring Carter Co., TN. On 23 Sep 1807 Joel Dugger entered 500 acres of land at Rusels Rock House on waters of Watauga River. (NC Land Entry # 1794). Joel Dugger served in the War of 1812 from Ashe Co., NC. (Muster Rolls of the Soldiers of the War of 1812... p. 118) From Gene Blair: "He is listed in the 1815 Ashe Co., NC tax lists as having 5 tracts of land totalling 280 acres valued at $175.00, two tracts joining David Dugger, and one tract (evidently his homesite) joining Abram Vanderpool." I didn't find Joel on the 1820 census. He was probably in Carter Co., TN then. That census is lost. Joel was listed on the 1830 census in Carter Co., TN:
They were listed on the 1840 census in Johnson Co., TN:
They were on the 1850 census in Watauga Co., NC though mistakenly listed as Dyers. It is clearly them though:
They were still in Watauga Co., NC in 1860. Joel and wife seem to have died in the 1860's, probably in Watauga Co., NC. From Gene Blair: Joel and Hester are buried in a plot in the middle of a farm on Phillips Branch Road (County Rd. 1209), off Hwy 321, near Willow Valley Baptist Church, about four miles West of Sugar Grove, Watauga Co., NC. |
