    SAMUEL(3) CHASE (Ens. Moses(2)), born in Newbury (now West Newbury) 13 May 1690; killed by falling from a horse, 24 July 1743. He married in Newbury, 8 Dec. 1713, HANNAH EMERY, daughter of John and Mary (Sawyer) Emery. She married (2), int. in Newbury, 30 Oct. 1762, Dea. James Shute of Rowley. Mrs. Hannah Shute, formerly wife of Samuel Chase, died in Newbury, 6 Oct. 1776, aged 81 years. He built the brick house now owned (1928) by Benjamin Burnham, near the Crane Hill road in the upper part of the village of West Newbury. There is a tradition that the bricks were made on his farm and carried by his wife in her apron to the house. He was a housewright and farmer. He and his wife were admitted to the Second Church of Newbury in 1715. He made his will 18 Feb. 1741/2 which was proved 1 Aug. 1743. He mentions therein his wife Hannah and his sons John, under 21, Amos, Samuel Jr., Benjamin, under 21, and John; his daughters Hannah, Ann, under 18, and Betty, under 18; his grandson Samuel, son of his son Francis. Francis, the eldest son, was named as executor.
