Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:

  • Page 554.--__ ____, 1753. Francis McCown to Robert Hamilton, late of Augusta. Delivered: Jno. Hamilton, 17th October, 1786. Part of 720 acres patented to Francis, 1743, on Tees Creek (later called "Kerr's Creek"), cor. Robert Erwin. Delivered to John Hamilton.

  • Vol. 1 - NOVEMBER, 1756 (A). - Mills vs. Hamilton--We, William Hamilton and Robert Hamilton, both late of Pennsylvania, yeomen. Bond dated 29th August, 1754.
  • 19 January 1764: [Virginia House of Burgesses] Thursday, the 19th of January, 4 Geo. III, 1764. A Petition of Robert Hamilton, praying some Compensation for the Losses he has of late sustained by the Incursions and Depredations of the Savages, was presented to the House and read; and the Question being put that the said Petition be referred to a Committee. It passed in the Negative. Resolved, That the said Petition by rejected. 2.ROBERT HAMILTON 1.WILLIAM HAMILTON

Robert Hamilton, a son of William Hamilton, was born in 1710, probably in Ireland, and died in Augusta County VA in 1786. His will was dated March 25, 1786. He married Margaret McKee. Margaret was born in 1712 and died in 1789. The family was living in Rockingham County VA in 1763 when Indians raided their settlement and killed two of their children. Three children were captured and later returned.
