Facts and Events
PETER appears in American documents, upon his arrival in New York City, on 10 May 1837, from La Havre, France, with his parents and siblings. In the records his name is given as: "Pierre". Perhaps because La Havre is a French port? Other places, such as the 1900 Federal Census, his name is: John P. Peter has no tombstone to mark his final resting place. There never was one. His third wife (Mary) is buried nearby, in a different Section, and does have a stone. Peter spent much of his life near Urbana, Indiana. Circa 1848 to circa 1890. About 40 years. There is not much documentation of this long period of time. He does appear in the 1870 Census in Chester Township, but an exact location has not been found. He was not listed as one of the founders of St. Peter's Church, even though his father and brothers were. He moved on to Anderson, Indiana in the 1890s. Probably because he was a railroad employee, and the same railroad line which passed through Urbana, Indiana, also went to Anderson. --White Creek 09:58, 7 August 2012 (EDT) References
