    Peter Crumrine

    b. 8 Oct. 1774, probably Melrose, Md. (Baltimore Co.)
    d. 17 Oct. 1860 in Darke Co., Ohio

Parents: Georg Leonhardt Krumrein & Margaret ...

    m. <1795> Elizabeth "Betsy" Ringer, b. 31 Jan. 1776 in Ohio d. 7 Apr 1856, Darke Co.,O.

Peter Crumrine is listed in the 1800 and 1801 Green Co., Penna. tax lists in Morgan Twp. and was listed as a shoemaker. Peter is also in the 1802, 1803 and 1804 tax lists. The 1805 list is missing. He is not included in the 1806 list, nor thereafter. The I.G.I. has their marriage in Greene Co., Penna.

In Beers, "History of Miami Co., Ohio" for a sketch of Henry D. Crumrine, there is an indication that Peter and his wife moved from Greene Co., Penna. in 1806 or 1807 and located on Wolf Creek, Madison Twp., Montgomery Co., Ohio. The "History of the city of Dayton and Montgomery Co., Ohio by Rev. A.W. Drury (1909, Vol. 1, page 906) indicates that Peter purchased land in Madison Twp, Montgomery Co.,Ohio Oct.15,1805. Peter is in the 1816 tax list of Montgomery Co.,Ohio, Madison Twp., as a propietor.

Beer's "History of the Darke Co., Ohio" page 446, says "Peter Crumrine moved into German Twp., Darke Co., Ohio, on March 12, 1817. The 1820 census has him in Washington Twp., Darke Co., Ohio. The 1850 census indicates that Peter was born in Maryland and Elizabeth in Ohio.

Beers "History of Miami Co., Ohio" indicates that Elizabeth's family name was Ringer, as does the I.G.I. Family sources of information have indicated her family name as Puterbaugh. On several land deed records in Darke Co., Ohio, she signed her name as "Betsy".

From a letter by Aaron R. [Crumrine], we read the following: (Typed with spelling and punctuation as near like the written as possible.)

"Well Charley you wanted to know about the Crumrine family My grandfathers name was Peter Crumrine he had one brother his name was Mikel Crumrine They settled cose to gather in Ohio in early days when the Indians were there yet and he had one sister that lived about 40 (or 46) miles from him for forty years and he did not know it but she found out that ther was a man by that name lived in Dark County and she came to see if he was any reation and he proved to be her Brother and she stated about a week and went home and they never seen each other any more she died soon after wards and they never knowd how many ther was of them there Father and mother died and they were bound out when they were small and got parted from each other and neither one of them know if there was any mor of them but they new ther was three of them that is as far as i know about that matter only the german decent there parents came from Germany." See copy of entire letter with Aaron's family in book "Peter Crumrine family".

Both Peter and Elizabeth are buried in West Branch cemetery in Darke Co., Ohio. The "History of Miami Co., Ohio" (referred to on previous page) indicates that Peter and Elizabeth were the parents of eleven children. Only nine with names are given in the following list.
