Early Land Acquisition in Augusta County, VA

Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:

  • Page 239.--20th May, 1752. John Lowry to Patrick Lowry, 200 acres North Fork of James. Teste: David Stewart, John Trimble, Robert McClenachan. (Note: it is thought that the John Lowry in this record is probably the father of Patrick, although no documents exist to prove this relationship. Certainly Patrick would have been of about the right age to have been a son of John Lowry, Sr. and would have been too old to have been a son of John Lowry, Jr. In the processining list of 1760, listed below, Patrick appears to be living next to John Lowry, Jr., which furter strengthens the assumption that they were brothers. More research is necessary to prove this relationship).
