Facts and Events
Nicholas Poss (Boss, Pace) was one of the Early Settlers of Augusta County, Virginia __________________________ [edit] About Nicholas PossNicholas Poss (name also spelled "Boss", "Pace" or "Pass" in early records) was born likely abt. 1735, some say in Cornwell, England, but more likely in Germany based upon other records. He acquired land along the North River in [then] Rockingham County, Virginia in 1781 and 1783. His tracts were ajoining other early Virginia settlers Leonard Tutwiler, John Aylor (Oyler) and Hance Cloverfield. The proximity of Nicholas to the Aylor/Oyler/Eller family provides at least circumstantial evidence to support Nicholas as a probable father of Henry and Christopher Boss/Poss, who both married daughters of Anthony Aylor in Rockingham County, Virginia and both families migrating to Georgia; also with a younger Nicholas Poss, who is thought to be a likely brother of Henry and Christopher and son of this Nicholas. Nicholas Poss appears to have died sometime before August 20, 1788, when is likely the "Nicholas Pace", who was listed as "since dead" in Chalkley's Augusta County, Virginia records. An Ancestry Member Tree claims that Nicholas died in 1785 in Rockingham County, Virginia. The source of Nicholas Poss's wife, according to an Ancestry Member Tree, as Mary Catharina Strauken is unknown and unsourced. Needs additional research.
