This article is about the Moses Edmondson who is shown in Southwest Virginia records, beginning about 1782 (See Notebook:Moses Edmondson. This person appears in close proximity to land owned by various members of the extended Edmondson Family, on the middle and south fork of the Holston River. Since he does not appear as a signatory on the 1773 Ebbing Springs Call it seems likely that he was not an adult at the time this extended family arrived on the Holston. He is sometimes identified as the son of Person:David Edmiston (1) who settled about 1740 on Elk Run of Beverley Manor in Augusta County, Virginia. This David gave an oath in 1740 that he had paid for the importation of himself, and various family members, including a Moses Edmiston. However, it is likely that his son Moses was at least 16 years of age at the time of the oath ^[6] This suggests a DOB for Moses son of David of about 1724 or erlier, making him 56 years of age or older when the family arrived on the Holston. Even if he were an infant when David claimed him for his headright, we would have expected him to be at least 30 years of age when the family first appears on the Holston. In either case, he would have been an adult, and would almost certainly have signed the Ebbing Springs Call. Since he did not, it appears that the Moses Edmondson who appears in the Washington County records beginning about 1778 (See: Notebook:Moses Edmondson (1), is too young to be the son of David Edmiston of Beverley Manor. Rather, he is likely to be the son of another member of the extended Edmondson family on the Holston.

• Page 114-RECORD BOOKS IN CIRCUIT COURT OFFICE. BOOK MARKED "RECORDS." --John Stuart, aged 65, deposes, same time and place. (at Brownsburg, July, 1805) Executors of Borden, Jr., conveyed 230 acres to Robert McElrath. Deponent says that Moses Edmonson was first settler on the tract, which was several years after death of Borden, Jr. Moses sold to Mathew Moorehead, who sold to Jno. McElrath who is the same as Robt. McElrath. Borden, Jr., conveyed 313 acres to John Stuart, father of deponent. Deed recorded in Augusta. It was bought from Benj., Sr. [Source: Chalkley's Vol. 2].

   Moses Edmiston's will is dated 12 April 1806 and he had died my 17 June, 1806, on which day his will was proven. Moses left his plantation for life to his wife, Rachel, and to go to his son, Moses on her death. Three negro slaves were also willed to family members.
