MRS. MARY NEAL PASSED AWAY

Mrs. Mary E. Neal, of this city, passed away Friday night at the home of her son, Frank Neal, in Bedford. Mrs. Neal was found dead in her bed Saturday morning when members of the family went to her room to awaken her. It is not known what time she died.
Mrs. Neal went to Bedford before Christmas to visit with her son and family. She was in good health Friday night when she retired.
She was 72 years of age. Surviving are three daughters, Mrs. Martha McKee, of this city. Mrs. Betty Howell, of Bedford, Mrs. Jane Long, south of this city, and four sons, Frank Neal, of Bedford, Robert Neal, of Indianapolis, Ralph Neal, of South Bend, and Sam Neal, merchant policeman, of this city.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at two o'clock at the Cure & Hensley funeral home and were in charge of Rev. E. L. Day.
Mrs. Lois Miller and Mrs. C. E. Cohee sang, "In the Garden" and "Somewhere the Sun is Shining" accompanied at the piano by Miss --- rest is missing. Hand written date of March 1931.
  • A story was handed down through the McKee family that Dove had been brought to Indiana as an infant in a wagon train with Daniel Boone. Unfortunately, it is not true. Dove was born in 1859 and Daniel died in 1832 in MO. Both his and his wife's remains were brought to Kentucky in 1845. There may be some element of truth to the story, only in relation to Dove's mother-in-law, Jane "Jenny" Asher. Jenny's great-uncle, Dillion "Old Dillion" Blevins Asher, was a good friend of Daniel Boone. It is my speculation at this time that Jenny may have been the infant.
