She was born with a mid wife in attendance and weighed about 7 pounds. She was baptized by Rev. P. A. Rasmusson at Lisbon church (in the country near Lisbon Illinois) with sponsors Mr & Mrs Sam Marvick, Mr & Mrs Joseph Osmon, and Maggie Marvick, Mrs S. Marvick was the godmother. In 1902 she moved with her family to South Dakota. With her brother Otis she was a member of the first sunday school class in english at their church and was one of four in the first confirmation class of 14 students on July 9, 1911. She graduated from Sisseton, S. D. High school in 1914 and attended two years at St. Olaf College, Northfield, Minnesota (1915-17). The 1913 Sisseton High School year book shows her as Sophomore class treasurer.
