He attended high school in Sioux City, Iowa and graduated from the University of Minnesota College of Forestry in 1941. He did graduate work at Duke University and the University of Minnesota. Before and after World War II he was a forester for the Tennessee Valley Authority and the State of Alabama, where he pioneered a forest fire prevention education program. During World War II he served almost 4 years as an officer in the Navy. He joined the University of Minnesota faculty in 1949 as an extension forester. He became a professor in 1974 and coordinator for Forestry Extension and Continuing Education in 1980. He helped establish the Minnesota Christmas Tree Association and was executive secretary until 1985. He has authored several publications and was active in the Society of American Foresters and the American Forestry Association. He received the Gamma Sigma Delta Award of Merit for his contributions to forestry and education. He served as president of the North Suburban St. Paul Kiwanis in 1984-85 and from 1982-87 was Financial Secretary for Como Park Lutheran Church. References
