He graduated from Sisseton High School in 1915 and attended Minneapolis Business College in 1916. He enlisted Aug. 30, 1918, and was a corporal in Co. L., Development Battalion No. 2, Camp Dodge, Iowa, and was honorably discharged Dec 18, 1918. Maurice worked in the Register of Deeds Office as assistant to his father the County Recorder in Sisseton SD. He also worked in a Shoe store, farmed (1922), and was a mail carrier (from 1928).
