Biography

Loammi Bean is the son of Loammi Bean (1757-1823) and Mehitable Marabel Smith (1761-1855). Sometime after 1809 at about the age of 30, in Grenville, Argenteuil, Lower Canada, Loammi (widower of Louise Campbell) married Marie Josephte Dupuis (widow of François Victor Couvrette, age over 18), daughter of Jean-Baptiste Dupuis and Françoise (Baron) Dupuis. Josephte had been previously married, at the age of fifteen, on January 19, 1807, in Rigaud, Ste-Madeleine, Soulanges, Quebec, Canada to Francois Couvret. To this marriage was born at least one child, Genevieve Couvret, born September 19, 1809.

Loammi and Josephte were the parents of at least seven children:

Joel Bean, born May 22, 1821; Mary Bean, born October 20, 1822; Elisabeth Bean, born December 25, 1824; Archibald-Atchy Bean, born December 22, 1823; Hetly Bean, born March 1, 1827; Leddy Bean, born May 27, 1829; Melinda Bean, born March 30, 1835

In the 1825 census, Laomi was in Hull, York, Quebec, Canada.[1] Loammi in 1832 was given a land grant in Grenville Gore, Argenteuil.[2] On September 7, 1834, at the age of fifty-four, Loammi Bean is baptized at the Church of Scotland, St Philippe d' Argenteuil, at Grenville, Quebec, Canada, along with his six children. The seventh child, Melinda was not born until the following year, and was baptized on May 17, 1835 in the same place. Loammi was in the military in 1839.Grand River Volunteers, 1st Grenville Militia 2nd, Grenville Sedentary Volunteers.[3] In the 1851 census, Laomi was in Deux Montagnes, Canada East (Quebec), Canada.[4]

Research Note

More research is required to determine whether Loammi had additional children, prior to his marriage to Josephte, his date of death, and his place of burial.
