Ruth K. McLaughlin, 91, of Marne Rd. NE, Newark, Ohio, formerly of Steubenville Rd., Carrollton, died April 3 in her residence following a lengthy illness. Born June 2, 1905, at Kilgore, Ohio, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Amelia Kohler. She had lived in Newark since 1992. She was a retired elementary school teacher. She had taught approximately 20 years in the Harlem Springs and Kilgore schools. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Carrollton and various teacher's organizations including the Ohio Retired Teacher's Association. She married November 28, 1929 to Mervin T. McLaughlin who died on December 22, 1987.
She is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Ronald K. and Nancy McLaughlin of New Waterford, Ohio; a daughter, Mrs. Larry (JoAnne) Moreland of Newark, Ohio; a sister, Marie Long of Carrollton; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Allen and Herman Kohler; three sisters, Velma Hawkins, Gotta Cline and Eula Stevens. Funeral services were held April 9 in the Allmon-Dugger & Hively funeral Home at Carrollton with Rev. Larry Lalama officiating. Burial was in Scroggsfield Cemetery.
