Josephine Honora Clos was born to Christian Clos and Catherine (Henris) Clos on 25 July 1865 at 341 Orleans Street in Detroit, Michigan. Her mother died when Josephine was almost 12 years old. Josephine married Heinrich ("Henry") Apel on 7 April 1883 in St. Anthony's Church in Detroit when she was 19. They had eleven children, all born at 341 Orleans Street, where she continued to live after her father's death in 1897. The children were are baptized at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Detroit, the church the family attended. In 1930 the household also included servant, Hattie Laudgraf, age 20 and born in Germany, and Josepine's brother Joseph Clos, a day laborer. Josephine died on 3 July 1930, shortly before her 65th birthday.
