Facts and Events
Albert Ignatius Apel was born 5 December 1887 to Heinrich ("Henry") Apel and Josephine (Close) Apel on Orleans St. in Detroit, Michigan. He married Helen Dean Tamplin on 12 August 1916; he was 28 and she 21. They had two children, Beverly Jean, born on 11 May 11 1917, and Robert Allen, born 8 July 8 1919. Robert died 10 March 1932 at the age of 12, but Beverly married and had three sons. Albert Apel became a commercial artist who at one time had about twenty people working for him at his studio in the Curtis Building on Grand Boulevard in Detroit. In 1944, at age 49, Helen had a major stroke and was bed-ridden. She died on 28 March 28 1955. Late in life (age 72) Albert wrote some memoirs, titled "Out of My Attic," which can be found online. He died two years later, on 25 March 1964, of a heart attack. Image Gallery
