Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:

• Page 817.--21st August, 1750. Paul Whitley and Sarah to Jonathan Whitley, 200 acres on Buffalo Creek where Paul now lives. Teste: James Hemphill, Jno. Gallbrath, Pat. McKendrick.

• Page 510.--17th November, 1757. Joseph Lapsley, as guardian of Hannah, Jean and Elizabeth Kirkham, to Jonathan Whitley. Robert Kirkham, formerly of Augusta, had bargained to Wm. Cleghorn, and Cleghorn to Jonathan, but Robert died without making deed and Jonathan has brought suit. Conveys 30 acres on James River. Teste: Jno Semple, Jno. Gilmer. Delivered: Samuel Hunter, 1763.

• Page 24.--13th March, 1760.-- John Bowen's will--Wife, Lillis (Lillie), sole executor and guardian; daughter, Mary, 1 malato slave; son, Charles. Teste: Jno. Smith, Margaret Smith, Peter Luney, Walter Crockett, Jonathan Smith, Jno. Buchanan. Proved, May 19th, 1761. by Jno. and Jonathan Smith and Jno. Buchanan. Lillie qualifies (her mark), with Jonathan Whitley, Wm. Buchanan.

Will of Jonathan Whitley. 1793 as recorded in Will Bk. Wash. Co. Va. p. 304-306 October 20, 1801

In the Name of God Amen, I Jonathan Whitley of the County of Yourk and State of South Carolina being in good and sound mind and memory but in low state of health but thanks be to the Almighty God and calling unto mind the mortality of my body and knowing that it is appointed for all men once to die do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament that is to say principaley and of all I give and recommend my soul into the hand of Almighty God that give it and my body I recommend to the earth to be buried in decent Christian burial at the discretion of my executors nothing doubting but at the General Resurrection I shall receive the same again by the mighty power of God and as touching such wordly estate wherewith it has pleased God to bless me in this life I give devise and dispose of same in the following manner and form

First I give and bequeath to Sarah Whitley my dearly beloved wife one negro fellow named Will and a negro woman named Fanny during her said Sarah’s natrel life and at her decease the negro Fellow Will

I bequeath to my Grandson Jonathan Whitley and Fanlny to be free and I further bequeath to my grandson Jonathan Whitley one negro Fellow named George and a bond due from Joseph French to me.

I give and bequeath to my son in law John Mitchell all the remainder of my moveable property one small bay horse to be given to my son in law James Davis and also the Track of land or plantation whereon I now live I give to said John Mitchell and his wife my daughter there natural life and at their death bequeath said Land to my Grandson Jonathan Mitchel.

I give and bequeath to my beloved Grandson Jonathan Davis a track of land that belongs to me lying on the waters of Holsteins river and my Grandson Jonathan Mitchel when he possess the land where I now live he is to pay to his Sister Lily Mitchel thirty pounds Sterling Cash or forty pounds in Trade.

I likewise constitute and confirm and make and ordain as my executors Henry Plaxco, John Mitchel and James Davis of this my last Will and Testament and I do hereby utterly disallow and revoke and disanul all and every other former Testaments Wills legacies bequeaths and Executors by me in any wise before mentioned, Willed or bequeathed Ratifying and confirming this and no other to be my last Will and Testament in Witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand fixed my seal this Twenty third day of September in the year of our Lord one thousand seven hundred ninety three.

Signed Sealed and published pronounced and declared by the said Jonathan Whitley as his last Will and Testament in the presence of us who in his presence and in the presence of each other hereunto subscribed our names.
