[edit] Information on John SkeenNote: there is conflicting opinion if John Skeen's wife Ingebo had a prior marriage to Reuben Allen. Other sources indicate that the Ingebo that married Reuben Allen was Ingebo Bird, daughter of Andrew Bird and Magdalene Jonassan. Additional research needed to resolve. From Familytreemaker site of D. Michael Hughes: (added with permission)
John Skeen and Ingebo his wife first appear in the Frederick County record wherein by three separate deeds dated 19, 22, and 23 August 1762, they sold off land Ingebo Allen-Skeen had purchased from Griffith Thomas. Her land at Hawkinstown was then in Frederick County but is now in Shenandoah County, VA. His land was sold next. On 1 July 1769 (Fred Co. DB 15, p 121) John Skeen and Ingabo his wife sold his 1/3 part of the 301 acre Fairfax grant on Smith Creek at New Market to the adjoining landowner, George Goodlip (same as George Cutlip). On 30 April 1770 (Fred Co DB 13, p 308) John Skeen and Ingebo his wife sold by lease to her son Reuben Allen III (d. 1779), 109 acres of land described as "of land set appart to the said Ingebo Skeen as her Right of Dower to her late Husband Reubin Allen Deceased." After this sale there is no further record in Frederick or Shenandoah Counties for John and Ingebo. More About John Skeen: Miscellaneous: +. Elizabeth ? and had a son, Moses Skeen. John assigned all of his land to his son Moses Skeen, and thereafter the deeds referring to the land grant of Mathew Schene had the names of Moses, Jacob and Mathew on them. John Skeen signed a petition in 1762 to rid the parish of Bedford of the vestry, because it was not doing the Lord's work. This was the vestry belonging to the Church of England; therefore, this writer feels that the Schenes were from Scotland and did not take part in the Revolution." References
