Enlisted from Wisconsin in 1862. In 1880, he was in Moody Co, Dakota territory, two doors down from his future brother-in-law George Burlingame. He returned (so says his pension papers) to Wisconsin to marry late in 1880. Eva died and and John remarried in SD to Sarah Burlingame, whom he may have known in Wisconsin, since they lived in the same area. They spent a short time in Arkansas and southern MO before returning to SD (Clark City). Eventually moved to KC about 1914. Son-in-law thinks he worked for the railroad and is buried in Leavenworth. He died at the hospital for the Western Branch National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers of “chronic interstitial nephritis” and arterio-sclerosis.
- 1890 Special Census of Veterans lists John Quigley of Dell Rapids, SD as Civ War Vet. Fought in "I" Co., 20th Wisc from 13 Aug 1862-28 Mar 1864. Pension file notes discharged for medical reasons from New Orleans. [1] The 20 WI was organized at Madison, Wis., and mustered in August 23, 1862.
- 1883 LIst of Union Pensioners lists him in Dell Rapids, Minnehaha, SD. Pensioned $4 in Apr. 1880 for “aphonia.”
- 1884 Land patent in Moody Co, SD, bro-in-law George bought land in same section same day.
