The 1850 and 1860 censuses identify the children of Thomas and Mary as Mary J., born ~ 1837, born PA, John (born ~1839), William (born ~1841), Thomas Jr. (born ~1843), Robert (born about 1845), James (born ~1846), Joseph (born ~1849), Elizabeth (born ~ 1852); Margaret (born ~1854); Isabel (born ~1856). The censuses combined with the birth years also establish that the family moved to Ohio just before the 1850 census and to Wisconsin about 1855. However, these are all very common names. The particular adult Quigleys linked here were identified as follows:
- Mary Quigley m. Joseph Darnell in Grant County, WI in 1853, about the time the family moved from Ohio. Her death record indicates she was born in Allegheny, Pennsylvania, consistent with the 1832 naturalization petition filed by Thomas Quigley.
- William (of the 33rd Wisconsin) and Robert (of the 6th Wisconsin) Quigley lived in the same household in Grant County in the 1890 Veteran's census.[1]. This William is then traceable through his pension records.
- John's first marriage record [2] lists his parents as Thomas and Mary Quigley. John moved back and forth between South Dakota and Wisconsin several times.
- James' obituary and death record are consistent with the 4-year-old son of Thomas living in Trumbull, Ohio. Additional research traced the facts in his obituary to his enlistment in the 33rd Wisconsin, the same as William Quigley.
- Joseph's obituary names his brother John in South Dakota, and he's living with his sister Elizabeth Williams in 1880.
- Margaret lived out her life in Platteville and is buried in the same cemetery as her parents.
- Isabel married in Grant County, then moved to Clark County, South Dakota with several of her brothers.
