Acquisition of Land from Orange County, Virginia Records:

• Pages 329-33. 26-27 Feb. 1740 [1741]. William Beverley Gent. of Essex County to John Pickens (Pikens) of Orange County. Lease and relese; for £24 current money. 764 acres in Beverley Manner... at Robt. Poge's red oak under the hill on the south side Lewis Creek... Robert King's line... Robt. McDowell's... (signed) W. Beverley. Wit: Jno. Lewis, Thos. Chew, Richd. Winslow. 27 Feb. 1740 [1741]. Acknowledged by Wm. Beverley, Gent. [Orange County Virginia Deed Book 4, Dorman, pg. 57].

Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:

• 1748, June 23d--John Pickins, 400 acres, south side South River, near land he bought from Samuel Davison, and 400 acres near the land he bought from Dotley (?) on South River.

• 1749, August 16th--John Pickins, 400, between Kerr's land and Hamilton's old place, and 400 acres between John Keer's land and John Carr.

• Page 422.--1st December, 1756. John Scot to Jno. Pickin, mortgage of 400 acres adjoining Cub Run. Col. Woods on one side and James Buseter on the other, £37.15 secured. Teste: Arnold Kuster ( ), Wm. ( ) Pickin, Uriah Humble.

• Page 199.--John Pickens and Ellinor, to Anthony Strother, of King George, from Beverley, 27th February, 1740; Robert Poag's, now Gordon's; corner on Lewis Creek; corner land sold by Jno. Pickens to Wm. Baskins, 552 acres, part of 764 acres, conveyed by Beverley to John, 27th February, 1740. Teste: Danl. Richeson, Thos. and Andrew Lewis, Robert Bratton.

• Page 690.--28th February, 1749. (from William Beverley) Same to John Pickins, Gent., 300 acres in Beverley Manor. Christie's Creek, Corner to Kerr; Fork of Long Meadow Run and Christies Creek supposed to be a corner in the patent line; corner Geo. Rodgers; widow Baskins line. Teste: Jno. McClure, Chas. Campbell.

• October 9, 1754, JOHN PICKENS and ELINOR, his wife, convey 300 A. on Christian's Creek, bought by JOHN PICKENS of Beverly at the fork of a Long Meadow Run, and Christian's Creek to Wm. Bell.

• Page 31.--10th October, 1754. John Pickens and Ellioner, to Wm. Williams, £20, lot 12 in Staunton fronting the New Court House Street on South. Teste: Wm. Bell, Wm. (his mark) Baskins, Saml. Bell, William Bell.

• Vol. 1 - SEPTEMBER, 1746. - Edward Herndon vs. John Pickens.--"Major" John Pickens's note. Dated 27th July, 1744. George Taylor, witness.

• Vol. 1 - JUNE 19, 1747. - (239) Robert Patterson and James Alien to view a road from John Picken's Mill to Lower Meeting House, and Andrew Lewis and Ro. Poage view a road from said mill to the Co. Ho.

• Vol. 1 - AUGUST, 1747 (B). - John Pickens vs. John Graham.--In June, 1747, and several years before, John Pickens was a trader and cattle dealer. Slander. Defendant said plaintiff ran away from Paxton Township, Pennsylvania (where plaintiff formerly lived), for debt.

• Vol. 1 - JUNE, 1752. - Fulton vs. Pickens.--John Pickens, of Augusta County, obligor to James Fulton. Dated 1746.
