Early Land Acquisition in Augusta County, VA
Acquisition of Land in Augusta County:
- 1750, August 29th--John Phareze, 150, between Arthur Johnston's survey and Wilkins' (c. g. e. p.).(Note: possibly for this John Phares).
- 19 May 1767 - John Phares (Ferris) purchased 400 acres on the southernmost fork of the North River of the Shenandoah for £47 from Henry Cresswell and his wife Rebecca. It is described as being on Stony Lick Branch, commencing from an oak near Stony Lick. - Page 138.--16th March, 1767. John Fares and Nance ( ) (name is signed Nance on the lease; Agness in recital of the release, and Margaret in the certificate of record of release) to Robert Edgar, £20, 100 acres, part of 400 acres patented to John Brownlee, 8th November, 1752, on the Lick Run, a branch of North River of Shanando. Teste: John Hogshead. Delivered: Ro. Edgar, 5th November, 1784.
- Page 549.--7th July, 1777. John Paris and Agnes to Barnabas Johnston. Delivered: William Johnston, July, 1779.

- Page 43.--4th September, 1785. Jno. Faris' will--To wife, Agnes Feris; to son-in-law, Wm. Feris; to son-in-law, Job Rennolds. Executors, wife Agnes and son-in-law Wm. Paris. Teste: Joseph Waddell, Edward Wealden. Proved 16th October, 1787, by Joseph Waddell, and 19th February, 1788, by Wealdon, and 17th June, 1788, executors qualify.

- Page 429.--16th October, 1765. Capt. Daniel Smith's settlement of estate of Robert Harrison allowed and recorded--Paid George Skilerton (Skileron?); paid Edmond Pendleton, Joseph Langdon, Jno. Stewart, Felix Ohlpman, Capt. Francis Thornton, Solomon Turpin, George Lindwad, Christian Groob, Christian Wilson, Henry Flesher, Doctor Caulval, Peter Watkins, John Crow, Jeremiah Ragen, William Grad, Wm. Minter, Jno. Phears. Isaac Johnston. Sale bill of above estate to, viz: Dennis Henry, Wm. Marks, Wm. McMullen, Toms Thomas, Capt. Waran, Arthur Trader, Neil Linch, Jno. Gum, Ezeriah Worden, Zebulon (Binenran) Harrison. To attendance and necessaries found for the deceased during the time he remained sick at my house, where he did from the 10th February to 25th May, 1761, being 3 months and 15 days.
- MARCH, 1767 (A). - Faris vs. Harrison.--In 1759 John Faris bought a horse from George Anderson. Shortly afterwards George left the Colony. Edward McGarry shortly after George left forged an endorsement on the bond to Daniel Harrison, and then absconded. Robert Harrison was a son of Daniel, and then, after George's departure, lay on his death bed. Note dated 12th May, 1759, payable 1st August next. (Signed) John Pheris.
- MARCH, 1767 (A). - John Pharis vs. Daniel Harrison.--George Anderson and William Cravens are going out of the Colony, 29th September, 1764.
