Facts and Events
John Copps was baptised on 22nd July 1798 at Weston in Hertfordshire, son of Mary Copps, formerly Dearman, and her husband James Copps. He was the youngest of their seven children. On 23rd June 1821, John married Rhoda Gundril at Weston. They went on to have seven children together. The first two were baptised at Weston. Some time between 1825 and 1828 the family moved to the neighbouring parish of Graveley, where the other five children were baptised. The two youngest children's baptisms give the family's abode as Graveley Mill, which appears to have been a windmill at Jacks Hill in the north of the parish. All the children's baptisms describe John as a labourer. Back in Weston, John's father died in 1829 and his mother died in 1833. John died in 1840, aged 42. He was buried at Graveley on 21st July 1840. Rhoda was left looking after the children, the youngest of whom was only one year old when John died. She survived John by about nine years. References
