Mary Copps was baptised on 28th November 1830 at Graveley in Hertfordshire, daughter of Rhoda Copps, formerly Gundril, and her husband John Copps, a labourer. In 1840, when Mary was nine years old, her father John died aged about 42. The following year's census finds Mary living with her mother and siblings at Jacks Hill in Graveley. She has yet to be researched after 1841.
