• Land Survey in Augusta County - John Blair, 19 acres, Long Glade. Adjoining his own land, John Anderson, James Blair. November 25, 1763.

• Page 226.--25th November, 1808. John Blair's will--To wife, Jane; daughter, Polly Blair (unmarried); to son, Mathew; daughters, Margaret Ewin and Rachel Young; to son, Alexander; to daughters, Jean Curry and Rachel Kirkland. Executors, Col. Alex. Robertson and eldest son, Alex. Blair. Teste: Wm. Wilson, Jno. Gamble, Jno. Bell. Proved, 26th December, 1808. Executors qualify.

Note: Court Records of Augusta County, VA: John Blair of Captai n Hog's company in 1758, allowed 50 acres. Will Book #X: 2 5 Nov. 1808, John Blair's will - - to wife Jane; daughter P olly Blair (unmarried); to son Mathew, daughters Margaret E win and Rachel Young; to son Alexander; to daughters, Jea n Curry and Rachel (sic) Kirkland. Executors: Col. Alex Rob ertson and eldest son, Alex. Blair. Proved 26 Dec 1808.

(Calling Kirkland's wife Rachel obviously an error; Rachel was already named as married to Young.) Augusta County Court Records include the following: "John Blair Deposes, 7th July, 1804, in Staunton, that about 50 years ago, when a certain James Blair was building a cabin at or near the main s pring of Naked Creek on the disputed land, deponent's grand father, James Scott, came there and asked if Blair was buil ding on his own grant, as his grandfather had a location ad joining." This is clear evidence that the father of John's mother, Jane Scott, was James Scott, who was a resident of Augusta County, and whose death is recorded on March 22, 1753.
