    James Tate, Died Jul. 15, 1857 in the 18th year of his age, is listed in the 11 August 1936 Work Progress Administration survey of this cemetery by Scioto M. Herndon. It's found online today at the Library of Virginia.

    According to Dorothy Weaver in her "Here Lyeth" (p. 104) James Tate's marker said 76 years. The photographer noted: it appears to be either 76 or 78 ... but it's getting rather worn and now is on the ground, semi buried. The photo is hard to read alone. Based on the 76th year of his age, he was born in about 1781.
