John Addison Tate was born on January 12, 1815, in Augusta County, Virginia, the child of James Allen and Rebecca. He married Margaret A Randolph Tate and they had one daughter together. He then had two daughters from another relationship. He died on November 21, 1854, in Augusta County, Virginia, at the age of 39, and was buried in Middlebrook, Virginia.
