Person:James Patterson (66)1731 Isabella Finley Person:James Patterson (65) Ann Cory Supposedly "James Patterson, eldest son of James Patterson and Anne Corry, married 1727, Isabella, daughter of Samuel Finley. Samuel emigrated to Chester Co., PA and died in 1737, admistration granted to his brother, Robert Finley, of West Nottingham, Pa. James Patterson, brother of Margaret, came to Rockbridge, Va." This story line is interesting because it places a line of Pattersons in the West Nottingham PA area about the same time as the Wigton Walkers were there---which may in turn relate to the Walker-Patterson marriage problem. However, none of this comes with supporting documentation, so its not clear whether these observations can be relied upon. Further work needed. Person:James Patterson (65)

Discussion

There are no records for this James Patterson that can be reasdily identified in Chalkley's Chronicles, though he may remain unrecognized among the many James Patterson records in that work which have not been specifically associated with a known WeRelate James Patterson.

The basis for including him here is strictly due to a common identification of James Patterson and Abigail Craddock as the parents of an Person:Abigail Patterson (1). Abigail (1) does appear in Chalkley's Chronicles in the form of her marriage to Jacob Calk, in 1793:

1793--[Marriages] ...August 22d,... August 29th, Jac. Calk and Abigail Patterson
Chalkley's Chronicles 2:362

Chalkley's Chronicles provies no other information about Abigail other than what is shown above. In particular it does not identify her parents. A subsgtantial number of Ancestry Family Tree's identify her parents as James Patterson and Abigail Craddock. The later couple is known from GLoucester Massachusetts vital records, which also show an Abigail Patterson, born

Ancestry Public Member Trees commonly identify James Patterson as the son of John Patterson and Jean Longmuir. There are approximately 600 Ancestry Public Member Trees with entries for John Patterson and Jean Longmuir; About half of them show a son James. However, the number of trees showing this son as marrying Abigail Craddock is relatively small (7 out of 73 of those trees who show a spouse). Of those that do show a spouse, 54 (74%) show him marrying an Elizabeth James. While its possible that the parents of James Patterson who married Abigail Craddock in Old Augusta, were John Patterson and Jean Longmuire, this seems unlikely. More evidence is needed, but there are few clues in the records of Old Augusta (as given by Chalkley's Chronicles) that point to anything useful in this regard.

A concensus of 386 Public Member Trees give John Patterson's DOB as c1691 in Northern Ireland (outliers have it as Clackmanshire Scotland), and that he married Jean Longmuire in1715 in Londonderry, Ireland. His death is consistently given as 1755, in Tinnicumm, Bucks County, PA, though a few Trees give it as 1754 in NC.
