Death[1] 1799 Clarendon, Rutland Co, VT

James' father died when he was a small child, leaving him a farm two miles from Providence, RI, which he subsequently exchanged for a house in that city, but eventually lost this property by going security for his father-in-law in the 1770s.[2]

From “A Complete Record of the John Olin Family”: James Edmunds, third, [his son] who married Freelove Olin for his third wife, was born in Providence, Rhode Island, February 16, 1762; moved with his father, James Edmunds, second, to Clarendon, Rutland County, Vermont, in 1775. He was in the Revolutionary war, drafted for three months, but on acunt of his large family was excused, and James Edmunds, third, took his place. It appears that the Edmunds family were of Scotch descent, and the first one that emigrated to America was Reuben Edmundss; and after he came to America he took part in King Phillip’s War. He was a slim man, but very active. He never took an Indian alive, but killed all he took. he was a Quaker preacher, and also a good lawyer.

There is a memorial done many years later, in the Scottsville Cemetery, Danby, Rutland Co, VT [1]
