Evidently (based on a snippet view from The Ancestry of Dr. J.P. Guilford, by Joan McGuire), there is a record where Titus Colvin mortgages his property in Ellisburg in 1807, mentioning his wife Lydia. Titus lived near Lydia's brother Christopher in Ellisburg in 1810 and 1820.

The author (b. 1837) evidently corresponded with Diana Edmunds' son-in-law Obadiah, and/or Diana herself. Diana was the daughter of Christopher Edmunds, Lydia's brother, who was living in Ellisburg, New York in 1800 when his wife died and left him with two young children. The story came to the author that Diana went to live with her aunt Lydia Ballard for several years, and that Lydia married Titus Colvin while Diana lived with her.
