James Dark Pioneer Resident Buried Monday. The funeral service for James Dark 90, pioneer resident of Neepawa and district, who passed away at his home here Friday, March 18, was held in Knox Presbyterian Church on Monday, with Rev. Douglas Anderson officiating. Burial was in Riverside Cemetery.
Pall Bearers were; Fred McLain, Arthur Clark, C. Orchard, W.J. Pollock, D.E. Pollock and G.H. Kilburn.
The body lay in state in the Masonic Temple from 12 to 1 P.M. Monday and members of the Masonic order conducted the service.
Mr. Dark was born at Brussels, Huron County, Ont. On July 8th 1858 and received his education there. He came to Neepawa District in 1879 and helped construct some of the first buildings in town.
He married Janet Brydon of Galt, Ont. Here in 1882 and they farmed in the Union District. Mr. And Mrs. Dark retired to Neepawa in 1914. Mrs. Dark predeceased her husband in 1927.
Mr. Dark spent one year in British Columbia with his son and daughter – in – law, Mr. And Mrs. George Dark before returning to Neepawa.
Mr. Dark was a governor of the Neepawa Hospital Board for several years and also served on the Parks Board. He was a member of the Masonic and I.O.O.F. lodges here.
Surviving is one grandson, James Dark, of Winnipeg. A son George died in Oct. 1948.
