In Grey, on Sunday, July 18th, 1897, Ann Dark, relict of the late George Dark aged 71 yrs, 3 months.
The messenger death beckoned the spirit of Ann Dark, relict of the late George Dark, to her long time home on Sabbath last. Deceased died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wm. Gordon, near Cranbrook, whom she was visiting when she took ill. Mrs. Dark was born in Devonshire England, her maiden name being Anne Fursman. Along with her sisters she came to Mitchell, Perth Co., where she was united in marriage about 50 years ago to Geo. Dark, who predeceased her six years ago, aged 70 years. They moved to the 12th con. of Grey over 45 years ago and took up their homestead, then a bush farm, which by hard work and careful management they transformed into fruitful fields. A year and a half ago the subject of this notice and her daughter moved to Brussels and purchased a house and lot on Fredrick Street. Mrs. Dark was highly esteemed and was a devoted Christian woman. In her early years she was a member of the Bible Christian church, afterward joining the Primitive Methodist body which was merged into the Methodist church of Canada. Ten children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Dark, all of whom survive. They are William, John, Robert and Mrs. Wm. Gordon, of Grey; George of Atwood; James, Benjamin, Mrs. Robt. Gordon and Mrs. Chas. Fox, of Neepawa, Man., and Miss Rebecca, of Brussels. Deceased had been remarkably healthy, never hardly knowing a day's illness, and although she was in her 72nd year, at the time of her death was remarkably active. An abscess on the liver and other complications was the cause of her decease. The funeral took place on Wednesday afternoon, interment being made at Brussels cemetery. Service was conducted by Rev. R. Paul. Sympathy is accorded the members of the family, especially Miss Dark, whose health has been of a very indifferent character for some time.
