Monona Man Meets Death In Milwaukee

Jacob Holly, 51, was killed at about 5:30 am Saturday, May 29, in an accident in the Milwaukee railroad switch yards at Milwaukee, Wis.

The accident occurred when the coupling between two cars that were being switched failed to lock and it was necessary for Mr. Holly to step in between the cars to adjust the coupling, where he was caught between the two cars.

Jacob Holly, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Holly, was born April 26, 1892, on the Holly family farm east of Monona in Giard township.

He was married in 1928 to Florence Koss and for many years they made their home in Monona, moving about two years ago to Milwaukee.

Mr. Holly was an employee of the Chicago and Milwaukee railroad as a switchman for the last 26 years. John McGee, a personal friend and brother switchman, was with Mr. Holly at the time of the accident and accompanied the body to Monona, acting in the capacity of the railroad.

Surviving are his wife, four children, June, Bette, Gwendolyn and John, a step daughter, Eva, and her husband, Mr. Harlan Martins, and grandchild Marilyn; four sisters, Mrs. Mary Fibikar of Boone, Mrs. John Johnson, Marquette, Mrs. George Montgomery and Mrs. Will Schrader of Monona, and seven brothers, Joseph of Farmersburg and Frank, Albert, George, Vencilof and Elmer of Monona.

Funeral services were held at the Methodist church Tuesday afternoon at 3 o'clock with Rev. H.W. Farnham officiating at the services.

Pallbearers were James Holly, Donald Montgomery, Harold Schrader, Joe Fibikar, John McGhee and Harlan Martins.

Burial was made in the East Side cemetery. (Monona City)
