Catherine Slates' grandparents were Frederick (1759-1830) and Margaret Roller Slates (1764-1828). Isaac Slates and sisters Sarah and Elizabeth Shawver had Frederick and Margaret as their great grandparents. Catherine, Isaac, Sarah and Elizabeth married siblings William, Christina, Jacob and Emanuel Colar.

    In the 1900 census Jacob was living with his son Albert in Loudon Twp., Carroll Co., Ohio. Jacob was listed as a widow age 71 born May 1829 in Ohio.

    His obituary in the Carroll Chronicle, Carrollton, Ohio, Friday, September 2, 1904.

    Jacob Kohler, an aged farmer, died at the home of his son, Albert Kohler, in Loudon Township Tuesday night. He was a native of Tuscarawas County, but lived nearly all his life in Carroll.
    His age was about 80 years. Three sons are left to mourn his death -- Messrs. David, George and Albert, farmers of Loudon Twp. The wife and mother died about six years ago. He was a member of the Lutheran Church, and an honest, industrious man. Interment yesterday.
