Facts and Events
See death certificate and obituary in my files. Ida's aunt, Louisa Catherine Owen, married David E. Braught, Jr. (the uncle of husband Cortes). G.Gramma Ida had the thinnest legs I've ever seen (see photos). Anyone could encircle her ankles with their index finger and thumb9 (about 2 inches diameter). Most of her great grandchildren were afraid of her (appearance), but I never noticed or felt that (they told me after she died). Of course, I was the only male of that generation and naturally a bit prized (spoiled). After g.grampa died, she lived with son Orville (and his wife, Lucy) In Des Moines, IA. until she died. Many Braught ancestors (including Cortes and Ida) are buried in the Des Moines Woodland Cemetery, which is now a national monument site. I placed the ashes of my parents (both died at Bradenton, FL) with a stone next to the stone of my g-grandparents, Ida and Cortes Braught at D.M. Woodland Cemetery. I found a poorly cited note that says there was a Xmas card to Ida from her sister, May. SpC 977.248 H Vol.1 History of Montgomery County, Indiana shows Owen and Motley in Clark Twp (p. 374) says that Twp. was created in Oct. 1830 and boundaries not changed since. 1837 Ladoga pop.=1,148; Indians still living there, but most gone or leaving that year. Need more time on Ladoga and Montgomery Co. history and records, including Owen and Motley. Des Moines 1933 City Directory shows a Lucille M Motley, steno for IA Farm Bur Fed residing at 1211 Pleasant St. This information is merely stored here with no indication of relationship beyond the surname.
