CAUTION: This Frank is not likely beloning to this family, but placed here for attention to needed research on the several "Frank Braughts" we have located in documents. We feel rather confident that there were only four children in the Cortes-Ida Braught family: Homer, Orville, Harry, and Ruth. It is important here to mention that Orville did have a son named Frank (who rather separated himself from the rest of the family for some reason) and likely there are some mixes of that Frank in this data. Birth Records of Warren County, IA by Warren County Genealogical Society, 1985; shows record of birth of Braught, ___ m., 3rd, b. 22 Aug. 1890 at Lincoln Twp to Ida C. Motley, IN, 29 and Cortes C. Braught, farmer, OH, 30 (#4174). This should be a record for 3rd child Orville, b. 10 Jan 1886 at White Lake, Aurora, SD, but dates and location are not what we see in other documents. I discussed this with Charlotte Short Vissat and she agreed that there were only four children for Cortes and Ida. Until I can find where this Frank is well documented, he remains here. Something here seems amiss.

Frank should have WWI Draft Registration data. There is a Frank mentioned with photograph in the book The Dust Bowl, by Arthus Rothstein. The photo shows Frank and Marie Braught with Ervin Zimmerman leaving South Dakota and stopped in isolation near the Missoula, Montana vicinity July 18, 1936. It can only be presumed that the photograph may have been taken by Mrs. Zimmerman? We know that Cortes and Ida lived in SD where 2nd son Orville was born in 1881, but their first son, Homer, and third son, Harry, were born in Warren Co., IA . Who, How and Why Frank was in SD in 1936 is not yet researched. The book photo infers that Marie was Frank's wife (appears rather younger than Frank who would have been about 45 yrs. old at the time). It also clearly shows on the back of their car the phrase "Oregon or Bust". However, this draws a theory that this Frank Braught was a member of or at least very socially close to Stainbrook families and the other Braught families in South Dakota at that time to have been leaving from there instead of Warren Co., Iowa where the rest of the Cortes Braught family was living. 1925 Des Moines Directory shows Frank H. Braught (wife Eva M.) residing 1609 - 6th Av. also living there is Mrs. Eva Braught working at B & F Cafe 1930 Census p. 23 A for Lee Twp. Ward 6, Des Moines, IA on York St. about 13th Hs. #409 Fam. #432. was Frank Braught, 20, dairy worker, b. IA, fa. b. North Dakota and mo. b. Kansas, wfie Vera, 20 b. KS, fa. b. IA, mo. b. IL. This logically has to be the same Frank, but the wife name here is not what was found elsewhere (may have been Vera Marie, however). This strongly suggests that a marriage license may be helpful and perhaps located in KS where she was born, if not Iowa. This data provided the birth state for Frank being used here (although I suspect it was South Dakota rather than North Dakota). 1900 US Census for Medina Co., OH ED 49 p.06 file 6 of 8 reports Frank Braught, 20, b. OH pg. 18A and 147B with Lettie Braught, 20, b. OH same reference. Obviously there are some different Frank Braught people about the same years who can be eventually better identified.
