Revolutionary War Pension Information
Information from “Virginia/West Virginia Genealogical Data from Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Records”, Vol. 4, compiled by Patrick G. Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. :
Reynolds, Henry - born Sussex County, Pennsylvania , abt. 25 miles from Philadelphia; moved abt. age 5 to Staunton [Augusta County], Virginia; entered service 1778 in Augusta County, Virginia, resided near the Cowpastures, in Virginia company; moved in 1779 to Washington County, North Carolina (area later Greene County, Tennessee), where entered service 1781 as Indian Spy; granted Pension abt. age 76 in Greene County, Tennessee in 1832; widow mentioned but not named living in 1836. F-S4079, R2027.
- Note: there is no such place as Sussex County, Pennsylvania. Sussex County, Delaware is about 110 miles south of Philadelphia, so it appears questionable where the exact location of Henry Reynolds' birth was based upon his Revolutionary War Pension Statement. Philadelphia is on the border of Pennsylvania and Delaware, so his birth could have been in either state based upon his statement of being born "abt. 25 miles from Philadelphia".

Henry Reynolds (Rennolds) was born about 1757 in Sussex County about 25 miles "above Philadelphia" (Pennsylvania) according to his Pension Deposition[1] and in Sussex County, New Jersey, according to a DAR publication[2] British Colonies. It is suggested he was the son of John. [3]
The first tax list for Greene County, which was originally part of North Carolina and was eventually a part of Tennessee, was carried out in 1783, the same year the county was formed. The Reynolds family names in that tax list included Henry, David, Job and William.[4]
Henry made a land purchase on both sides of Camp Creek in Greene County (before Tennessee statehood). On Sept. 20, 1787 North Carolina granted to Henry Reynolds for 10 pounds for every 100 acres of land, 300 acres in Greene Co., NC, on both sides of Camp Creek. Signed Richard Caswell, Governor.[5][6]
Henry married possibly three times:
Unknown (Tilman) Catherine Skiles [7] [8] Charity McNew [9] [10] [11] After his 3rd marriage, he again obtained land on Camp Creek, Greene County, Tennessee. [12] It should be noted, though, that he isn't appearing in the tax lists there during 1805 or 1836. The Reynolds names that appear in 1805 are James[13] and Joseph.[14] Charity's father appears nearby.
By 1830, he and Charity had 7 children living with them. [15]
Will In 1835 he left a will. [16] [17]
In his will, Henry gave land to each of his children:
David Reynolds [17] Ellender (Reynolds) Reaves [17] William Reynolds [17] Joseph Reynolds [17] Richard Reynolds [17] He also listed "Other children: Henry, Pattsey, Sally, Ellender, William, Joseph, Richard."[18]
