From the June 3, 1987, edition of the Postville (IA) Herald Harriett Bacon Harriett Marie Bacon died Sunday, May 24, 1987, at Lutheran Hospital, LaCrosse, Wisconsin, following a long illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday, May 26, 11 am, at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Monona, with Rev. Harold O. Ward officiating. Burial was in Monona City Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, in charge of services. Harriett was born January 31, 1912, to William and Rose Holly Schroeder, in Clayton county, near Monona. She received her education in the Monona school, graduating in 1929. March 5, 1930, she was married to Lloyd Bacon. They had 5 sons and 1 daughter. The couple farmed near Monona in Allamakee County until 1947. They moved into Monona in 1947 and have resided there since that time. She was a lifelong member of of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, A.L.C.W. and Canasta club. Preceding her in death were her parents and daughter-in-law Minerva Bacon. Surviving are her husband, Lloyd; 5 sons, William, Elgin, Allan, Postville, Donald (Pete), Monona, Richard, Monona, and Ralph, Postville; a daughter, Shirley Drake, Omaha, Nebraska; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Gladys Bruehahn, Monona, Vivian Scheffert, Luana, and a brother, Harold, Luana. Pallbearers were her grandchildren. _____________________________
On March 5, 1930, Harriett was united in marriage to Lloyd Bacon. To this union, five sons and one daughter were born. The couple farmed near Monona in rural Allamakee County until 1947. They moved into Monona in 1947 and have resided there since that time. Harriett was a life long member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, ALCW, and canasta club. She died Sunday, May 24, 1987, at Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin, following a long illness. Preceding her in death were her parents and daughter-in-law Minerva Bacon. Surviving is her husband, Lloyd; five sons, William of Elgin, Allan of Postville, Donald (Pete) of Monona, Richard of Monona, and Ralph of Postville; one daughter, Shirley Drake of Omaha, Neb.; 15 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Gladys Bruehahn of Monona, Vivian Scheffert of Luana; and twin brother, Harold of Luana.
