William Francis Bacon

William Francis Bacon, 72, Waukon, formerly of Elgin, died Tuesday, July 29, 2003, at the Northgate Care Center, Waukon, following a brief illness. William had resided at the Postville Nursing Home for a short time before moving to Northgate Care Center. He was born on January 26, 1931, in rural Monona to Lloyd and Harriett (Schroeder) Bacon. He attended school through the 8th grade. William became a United States Marine on September 12, 1951, serving in Korea, and was honorably discharged on September 11, 1953.

He was united in marriage to Minerva Thorson at the East Clermont Lutheran Church in 1955.

William drove truck for a time and farmed near Elgin. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching wildlife.

Survivors include his siblings, Donald "Pete" (Jean) Bacon, Monona, Shirley (Jim) Drake, Hot Springs, AR, Richard Bacon, Luana, and Ralph (Linda) Bacon, Postville, a sister-in-law, Beverly Bacon, Postville, and numerous nieces and nephews.

William was preceded in death by his parents, his wife in 1975, and a brother Allan "Bud" Bacon.

Prayer Service will be held at 7:30 PM on Tuesday, August 5, 2003, at Leonard Funeral Home, Monona, with Rev. Helen Kuhens. Friends may call from 5 to 8 PM on Tuesday, August 5, 2003, at Leonard Funeral Home.
