From the October 2, 1975, edition of the Elgin (IA) Echo Obituary Of Minerva Bacon Minerva Thorson Bacon, daughter of Alphie and Myrtle Lien Thorson, was born January 1, 1928, in a farm in Clermont Township, Fayette County, Iowa. She died at her home on September 25, 1975 at the age of 47. Minerva was baptized and confirmed at the East Clermont Lutheran Church. She attended the school at Clermont and graduated from Luther College at Decorah, Iowa. She taught in the Luana, Waukon and Waterloo Schools. On January 15, 1955, she was married to William Bacon. In February 1956, they moved to a farm near Elgin. She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew. Survivors include her husband Bill, two brothers, Eugene and Charles Thorson, both of Clermont and a sister, Mrs. Eugene (Velma) Moorhead, Phoenix, Ariz. Funeral services were held on Sunday, September 28 at 2:00 pm at the East Clermont Lutheran Church with burial in the church cemetery. Pastor Clarence Johnson officiated. Organist was Barbara Thorson and soloist was Clarence Amundson. Casket bearers were Roger Thorson, Kenneth Blockhus, Ed Schneider, Jerry Thorson, Glen Reierson and David Schneider. Schutte Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. We would like to thank everyone for the memorials, gifts of food, flowers and the many kind acts of sympathy. A special thanks to Barbara Thorson, Clarence Amundson, Pastor Johnson, Carla Rear and the Clermont Fire Department.
