Gerd married Theda (Tena) Margaretha Siebels on June 28, 1872. They had eight children. When he married, he began farming in the Crescent City area. Gerd and Theda are buried in St. Peter's Lutheran Cemetary, Crescent City. Geneva Wessels: He built his own generator, becoming one of the first in the area to have electricity. As a child Geneva and the others grandchildren would go to their home on Saturday nights for baths and other family activity. –-–-–-–-– Obituary George (Gerd) Wessels February 7, 1853 - February 6, 1933 Obituary Aged Milford Man Called in Death Last rites for George Wessels, 83, were conducted from the home west of Milford at 1:30 o'clock Sunday afternoon by the Rev. R. Reichen, pastor of the Schwer church, followed by burial in the Lutheran cemetery, south of Crescent City. Mr. Wessels died Thursday of last week after an illness of the past several years. He had been bedfast for two months. He was a native of Germany having come to this country as a young man. His wife died about 18 months ago. Surviving are four daughters and four sons: Mrs. Lena Luke, Mrs. Anna McKee and Mrs. Tillie Miller of Milford, Miss Minnie Wessels at home, John, William and Harry Wessels of Crescent City and Fred Wessels of Urbana. Gerd Wessels, who died August 2 at his home in Crescent township leaves an estate of $25,000 in real estate and $2,000 in personal property to his children. John Wessels will receive the west half of the northwest quarter of section 27, township 26, range 13 west, subject to the payment of $2,000 to a sister, Minnie Wessels. Fred Wessels will receive the northeast quarter of the northeast quarter of section 28 and the southwest quarter of the southwest quarter of section 22, township 26, range 13 west, subject to the payment of $1,000 to a sister, Mrs. Anna McKee. To Willy Wessels he leaves the east half of the northwest quarter of section 27, township 26, range 13 west subject to the payment of 1.000 to Mrs. Lena Luke. Harry Wessels will receive the I south half of the northeast quarter west, subject to the payment of $1,000 of section 28, township 26, range 13 to Lena Luke, $1,500 t Tilly Mueller and $100 to Sena Lubben. The above I payments are to be made within five' years. The remainder of the estate will go to Minnie Wessels. The will also states that a note signed with H. A. McKee on March 1, 1923 payable to Clel Black shall be charged against the bequest to Anna McKee. A note of $2,440 which Mr. Wessels signed and Paid for 1-1. A. McKee on March 29, 1924 shall be charged against Mrs. McKee. Another for $1,900 signed January 1, 1928 with Fred A. Mueller in favor of Anna C. Smith shall be charged against the bequest of Tilly Mueller and a loan of $275 to Fred A.
