The following information was obtained from newspaper microfilm from newspapers in the Crescent City, Illinois area: May 18, 1906: Grandma Wessels living in the east part of town is dangerously sick. There is not much hope for her recovery. May 30, 1906 -- From the newspaper, "Republican:" Mrs. Wessels of Crescent dead. Mrs. Gesche Wessels, widow of the late Frederick Wessels died at her home in Crescent City last Sunday (May 21, 1906). Funeral services are being held this afternoon. She was a native of Hanover, Germany, her maiden name was Gesche Reinholtz and married Frederick in the old country. They came to America in 1869, accompanied by 4 children, first locating in Tazewell County, where the husband and wife immediately engaged in farming. Two years later they moved to the Wilson settlement west of Danford. Mr. Wessels died about five years ago. Mrs. Wessels is survived by three sons, George and Thomas of near Crescent City and Geike of Stuttgart, Arkansas. June 1, 1906: Grandma Wessels dies at Crescent. General debility ends good woman's life. Grandma Wessels died at her home in this city last Sunday afternoon at 2 pm. Old age and debility were the cause of her death. She had been ailing for a long time and her death was not unexpected. The funeral was held Wednesday from the German church at 1 pm conducted by Rev. Helmreich the pastor. All of her living children except Geike H. Wessels who lives in Stuttgart, Arkansas and who had attended the funeral of his brother Jacob here a short time ago, and visited his aged mother at that time. Mrs. Wessels was in her 83rd year.
