Acquisition of Land from Chalkley's:

  • Page 155.--11th February, 1763. James ( ) McAfee, Sr., to George McAfee, £100, 190 acres, part of 300 acres patented to James, 15th December, 1749, on Catawbo, a branch of James River; corner James McAfee, Jr. Delivered: James McAfee, Jr., February, 1765.
  • Page 62.--19th August, 1766. Gabriel Jones and Margaret to James, George and Robert McAfee, £107.10, tract purchased by Gabriel of James McCown, and he from Robert Poage, on Catawpa, a branch of James River. Delivered: Francis Smith, 1st October, 1767.

Will of George McAfee
March 21st 1803
I George McAfee of the County of Mercer & State of Kentucky being weak in body & health but of perfect mind & memory do in the name of God make & ordain these presents to be my last will & testament imprimes, I recommend my soul into the hands of almighty God who gave it to do as it seemeth good in his bountiful providence & fatherly care & my body to be decently buried after death by my executors & friends and secondly it is my will & desire that a certain agreement between myself & George McAfee Jun (my son) which was acknowledged and recorded by me in the Clerks Office of this county be with drawn & destroyed the same not being for value and consideration.
Thirdly it is my will that Peggy my daughter have my negro woman Phoebe & her two children & the black walnut desk to her and her Heirs forever.
Fourthly, It is my desire that the remainder of my personal property be liable to pay my Just debts & be applied to red... my land which is now morgaged to Isaac Shelby Esquire as to my sons John & James & my daughter Polly Armstrong I have given them all that I intend
Fifthly, It is my will and desire that as soon as my land is ... to which my Executors are required to do with as much expedition as possible after my decease that my daughter Susannah shall have one hundred & fifty acreas of land bounded as follows, Viz, Beginning at a sugar tree . corner to ... of land I sold to William Mahon on the bank of salt river running up said river to .. ..... of .. first branch below my medow thence an Eastward course so as to strike a black walnut .... corner to David Banta's land & mine thence such a course northward so as to include the afore mentioned quantity of land north of said eastward line & also the Cherry desk to her & her Heirs forever
Sixthly it is my desire that my dearly beloved wife Susannah & son George / after my debts paid / have the remainder of my land estate & household & farming utensils & moveable property as tenants in common & at the death of my beloved wife Susannah all my land & property to remain to my son George & his Heirs forever
Seventhly it is my desire that Saml Gray Esq my dearly beloved wife Susannah & George McAfee / my son / be appointed my Executor to carry into effect this my will
In Witness whereof I have here unto subscribed my name this 21st of March 1803

Codicil to the will of Geo McAfee NB is here as I have received notice that my son John McAfee died in Charles to South Carolina with out a will whereby all this property both real & personal de... to me It is my will that all the property which the ... John died possessed of in South Carolina go to my son James & his Heirs for the purpose of paying the debts of said John. & further it is my will that the plantation of the said John be sold to pay te remainder of Johns debt (after the property in South Carolina is ....ted) if any the ..... is to be divided amongst my beloved wife my son George, Polly Armstrong, Peggy & Susannah as Witness my hand & seal this 14th day of April 1803

  • Vol. 1 - AUGUST 21, 1767. - (239) Joseph McMurty and George McAfe to view a way from McMurty's Mill, through McAfee's Gap, to the Wagon Road.
  • Vol. 1 - NOVEMBER 19, 1767. - (360) Joseph McMurty and George McAfee reported that there were not enough tithables convenient to make a wagon road from McMurty's Mill thro' McAfee's Gap to the wagon road, and it was only practicable to clear it for carrying loads on horseback until the country is better settled, which is ordered, and Joseph McMurty and James McAfee, Jr., to be surveyors and work with the tithables on Craig's Creek and its branches from Gatlive's up, and on Catabo from Alexander Smith's up.
