Census 1860 Pike Co Alabama p62 line 24 says born Florida; my mother, her eldest daughter, Sarah R. Alexander, said Tallahassee, Florida. Census 1870 Bullock Co., Alabama, p220 Census 1880 Bullock Co Alabama p48 says born Alabama as does the Civil War Pension application testimony which gave her age and said she lived all her life in Alabama. Census 1900 Geneva County Alabama, p153 gives her birth as July 1858 and age 41

She filed a Civil War Pension application Jan 16, 1922 on which she declared her personal property value was $100. It was approved.

My mother gave me the information about her birth, marriage and death. The Geneva County Court House burned and all early records were lost. Her tombstone death date is different from the information on my mother's delayed birth certificate which says 11 Mar. 1927, but I would think the tombstone date is correct as it was erected by her family living in the same town where she died.

She raised the three children of her son, Jake, after his wife died until he remarried. She was 64 years old at the time. Two of these children, Marie Alexander French and Jeanette Alexander Jones, have given me the birth and death dates from the tombstone in Geneva, Alabama, b1867 - d1928. I question the birth date as my mother said 1856 and the pension application of Florida Virginia Alexander says she was 65 yrs, 5 mo. and 21 days old in Jan. 1922.
