1850 census - Pike Co., Alabama, Oct 24, ancestry.com image 90 of 294; age 21 b SC, unmarried, living with his parents.

1860 census - Pike Co Alabama, age 29 yrs says b in S.C. (as does his father); Virginia appears as his birthplace, as father of Florida Virginia Alexander on 1880 census, Bullock Co Alabama for, Columbus A. Alexander. I think it was South Carolina, as the info was probably given by him or his wife in the earlier 1860 census Pike Co Alabama p62; also his father lived near him in 1860 (census) & he gave his birthplace as South Carolina as well as his wife.

He was a grocer according to the 1860 Pike Co., Alabama census.

There is a record of a Giles death in Sumter Co., AL 7 Nov. 1916, Alabama Deaths, 1908-1959, Vol 37, cert. 155, Roll1 (Ancestry.com). No record was found at Dept. of Public Health.

According to the National Park Service Database he was a member of Hilliard's Legion, Alabama Volunteers which later became part of 60th Alabama Regiment.
