Emma Bastock was born in 1842 at Warwick and baptised there at the parish church of St Mary on 26th November 1842. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Bastock, formerly Reynolds, and her husband William Bastock, a plasterer. The family lived on Saltisford, the main street leading out of Warwick to the north-west. The 1851 census finds Emma living at home on Saltisford with her parents and siblings. At the time of the 1861 census Emma was living with her aunt Sarah Chaplin, who was her father's older sister.
In 1867, aged 25, Emma married a carpenter named Edward Samuel Woodfield, who was 22. Although they were both from Warwick, they married ten miles to the north in Coventry, at St Michael's Church (later the Cathderal). After their marriage they returned to Warwick, where they had seven children between 1870 and 1882, although three of the children died young. In Warwick they lived at Stand Street to the west of the town between at least 1870 and 1872, before moving to Paradise Street in the Packmores area of town north of the railway some time between 1872 and 1874. Emma was described in the 1881 census as a laundress.
Emma died at home at 22 Paradise Street on 26th November 1901, aged 59. Edward survived her by nearly eleven years.
